Hear virtuoso Wulfin Lieske play "La Leona," the most famous Spanish guitar built by Antonio de Torres in 1856.

Live concert, Bonn-Bad Godesberg, Michael Kapelle, June 18th 2005
(Video Clip)

La Leona could be described as the predecessor of the modern Spanish guitar.  With her fan-bracing pattern consisting of 7 struts, the large plantilla and the tornavoz (a cylindrical brass cone in the soundhole), La Leona started out as an experimental guitar.  Antonio Torres never sold it.  After his death, the guitar changed hands several times.  When Jose Romanillos tracked the masterpiece down, La Leona was in a miserable shape.  Dr. Hannen, a renowned collector in Cologne, Germany, acquired the famous guitar and Benno Streu brought her back to life!
